iPhone 3.0 Firmware Download, Release Date and New OS 3 Features
Apple already announced the release of iPhone 3G OS 3 update. iPhone users are also asking where and how to download the iPhone 3.0 firmware. Our answer is simple. At this stage of development, it is not safe to download the iPhone 3.0 firmware, just like other softwares in the Beta stage.
Of course most of those who are in the know must have played around Torrent sites claiming to offer free download of the iPhone 3.0 firmware aka iPhone OS 3 but here’s the thing. If you will not wait for the official announcement of Apple as regards the official release date of iPhone 3.0 firmware, you are risking you iPhone 3G. You know Torrent files. Most of them are untrustworthy. You might find yourself in a lot of trouble if you’ll insist on downloading the iPhone 3.0 firmware from Torrent sites or anywhere else outside the Apple website at this point in time.

If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose Yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.
And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.
There. May we also state here that the procedure on How to Upgrade iPhone 3G to iPhone 3.0 Firmware might be the same as the iPhone 2.2.1 firmware update/upgrade but we still have to wait for Apple’s official announcements before doing any upgrade. iPhone 3.0 firmware release date will be very soon and you can download all you want if this software (also known as iPhone OS 3.0) becomes officially available from Apple and not some Torrent sites.
In addition, the iPhone OS 3 will include the new features (given below) in the 100+ features Apple promised to iPhone users worldwide:
- Search your iPhone
- Cut, copy, and paste
- Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS (iPhone 3G only)
- Read and compose email and text messages in landscape
Important Update for iPhone 3G users: The release date of iPhone OS 3.0 could be in June. Others speculate that the firmware of iPhone 3.0 release date will be earlier (April 17). In any case, we’ll keep you all posted with this development. It won’t be long before Apple announces the official schedule of availability of the new OS 3.0 so stay still (for now).

Can i update my iphone 2g via OS 3 or its for 3g only

Yeah the iPhone 3.0 firmware is for the iPhone 2G and 3G. There are just some features available to iPhone 3G only. As a word of advice, don’t download the iPhone 3.0 firmware from Torrent sites (as stated in the article). Wait for a while for the official announcement or release of the OS 3. Release date will be posted here ASAP.
