PowerVR SGX545: DirectX 10.1 Graphics Processing Unit for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch
Imagination Technologies, a small semiconductor company, unveiled its latest offering for smart phone gamers. The company’s latest PowerVr SGX545 GPU is the world’s first DirectX 10.1-compatible embedded graphics IP core that is being hailed to be capable of powering HD graphics and 3D games on your much-loved iPhone. It will be the successor to the GPU that powers iPhone 3GS games.
In addition, iPhone 3GS added a new-fan base when it showed it can run 3D games smoothly at high frame rates. This is kudos to Imagination Technologies’ SGX535 GPU. Gamers are now taking their favorite high resolution 3D games in their pockets. In addition to this, PowerVR SGX545 is also intended to power iPod Touch 3rd Generation units and other handheld devices.
The 200 Mhz SGX545 is a groundbreaking successor to the SGX 535 for high-performance mobile gaming. It is being targeted for next-gen smart phones and netbooks. It supports a lot of API platforms, in addition to DirectX 10.1, it also supports OpenGL ES 2.x, OpenGL 3.x, OpenVG 1.x, and OpenCL 1.x.
