iDriver: Drive Your Car Remotely Using Your iPhone 3G and 3GS
A cool app for the iPhone called iDriver developed by Appirion UG is being tested at the Free University of Berlin which enables anyone to drive a car remotely via WiFi. How cool is that for iPhone 3G and 3GS users? With iDriver, steering, brake and acceleration commands can be sent through WiFi. If you’re a lazy car driver, you’ll find this befitting. It’s even more convenient if you know a little about networking.
iDriver App to Remotely Control Your Car Using iPhone 3G or 3GS models
The car is set-up with a drive-by-wire system that serves as the brain of the Remote Control (RC) car, video cameras, 3D Laser Sensors, GPS for accurate navigation and WiFi as communication link to the iPhone.
The iDriver comes with three control buttons. The gas button which is pressed to allow the vehicle to accelerate into a predetermined speed, brake button which releases the gas pedal and bring the vehicle into a gradual halt and the steering wheel button. Steering is done by pressing the button and tilting the iPhone on either direction (left or right). The interface is easy to use and is very responsive. The steering control is also very accurate, a slight tilting of the phone creates an equal reaction on the steering wheel which is very important. Maneuvering the vehicle seems very easy with iDriver.

This app is still far from being perfect. Apparently, one of the major deterrents is the use of WiFi as the method of conveying the instructions from the iPhone 3G/3GS to the car which has a limited range. The use of compatible GPS devices will greatly enhance this product a mile further, for example just enter a target location on your iPhone 3G/3GS and let iDriver do the driving while you take a nap 
As to price, we’re not sure if iDriver App for iPhone 3G and 3GS models is free or not. In fact, we have yet to try the software when it’s released for public use either for testing or commercial purposes.
