If you’ve read our previous post on Kodak Playsport ZX3 Waterproof Video Camcorder, here’s our own Kodak ZX3 review, FYI. Summertime is coming and for those of you planning to splash on the beach or on the pool, Kodak Playsport HD Video Cam is the perfect gadget to bring along. If you like the Kodak Zi8 pocket HD camcorder before, you will absolutely love the new Kodak Playsport. It is essentially the same Zi8 internals that are packed inside the colorful but rugged and waterproof casing.
Kodak has realized that the increasing popularity of smart phones and point-and-shoot cameras with HD video recording has greatly affected the sales of its amazing Zi8 pocket camcorder. It therefore shrewdly decided to create a superior version of it. They made it usable underwater and encased it with all-weather shockproof chassis! The Kodak Playsport ZX3 can shoot high-resolution videos up to 1080p, 30fps whether you are on land, sky, or 10 feet under the sea!
Not only that, Kodak also upgraded this pocket cam with new features such as the very effective Electronic Image Stabilization and the Smart Face Tracking technology. This new camera also comes packaged with decent software that lets you edit and upload video and still images online easily. Another major improvement is the better low-light performance for the Kodak Playsport ZX3. The Kodak Zi8 HD Digital Mini Camcorder suffered noticeable video quality degradation before and Kodak has addressed this issue on this model. I also appreciate the new in-camera charging option which means you won’t have to miss any moment. The inclusion of LCD Glare Shield is a real help in shooting under sunny condition.
My only complaint about the Kodak Playsport ZX3 Waterproof Video Camcorder is the very low 4x digital zoom. I believe Kodak should increase the zoom range so distant subjects can still be recorded without the need to move nearer.
