Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone Release Date Soon in the US

Date Published: July 8, 2010

Just a month after launching the HTC Evo 4G, Sprint announced that they will be carrying the Samsung Epic 4G android phone, which features a four-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard. The Samsung Epic 4G, first dubbed as the Samsung Galaxy S Pro, is another variation of the Galaxy S super phone but this one goes better than AT&T’s Samsung Captivate version because the Epic 4G will offer 10x faster internet connection via Sprint’s 4G network. This Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S should also appeal to people who likes to type using physical keyboards.

Samsung is really trying to outdo Taiwanese company HTC in the smartphone business. This Samsung Epic 4G release in the US is another step forward for Samsung’s ultimate plan to become America’s top 3 OEM sellers behind Blackberry and Apple. Exact Samsung Epic 4G release date will be announced very soon. Expect that. Just like its Samsung Captivate sibling, the Epic 4G will be powered by Samsung’s 1 Ghz Hummingbird processor (same as that of Samsung Galaxy S i9000) which already tested to be faster than the 1 Ghz SnapDragon Processor found on the HTC EVO 4G and other high-end Android phones. HD video recording and 3D gaming on this handset will be awesome. The 4G connectivity makes online gaming and watching movie streams an exhilarating experience.

The Samsung Epic 4G will initially ship with Android OS 2.1 but Sprint says an upgrade to Android OS 2.2 Froyo will be available soon. Sprint is trying to market this phone to enterprise user like business executives who are used to Blackberry’s physical keyboard input. The slide-out keyboard of the Epic 4G makes it the best Android alternative to the Blackberry, it’s got larger keys and is very responsive. Sprint also said that business people who buy the Epic 4G will enjoy push e-mail, Exchange ActiveSync for corporate e-mail and integrated calendar services. There will also be enhanced enterprise security features for this phone so that users will get blanket guaranty that the Epic 4G is worthy of replacing Blackberry phones.

Sprint is a far-third to Verizon and AT&T but Samsung’s unique Epic 4G may help the company close the gap. If Sprint spends enough money to promote this phone, I expect it to equal or even exceed the success of the HTC EVO 4G which sold 180,000 units in its first 2 days.
