Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 Review: Xperia X2 Mobile Phone Dumped by Vodafone
In an appalling turn of events, Vodafone announced that they will no longer be carrying the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 mobile phone. This is so much unexpected since Vodafone was proudly proclaiming last year that they obtained exclusive distribution rights for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 in the UK. Unlike the Unlocked Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 which did not have such problems, Xperia X2 is giving Sony Ericsson a bit of a trouble lately.
Technical problems have repeatedly delayed the official launching of the Sony Xperia 2 and Vodafone finally dropped it from its roster. The company said they will focus on promoting the Google Nexus One phone instead.
Expectations have been high for the Sony Xperia X2. It is the first Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone to be manufactured by Sony Ericsson. It has significant traits that aren’t usual to Sony Ericsson products. Of the Xperia 2 specs and features, the most noticeable is the microSD slot. Sony has abandoned its proprietary Memory stick slot in conformity to the industry standard. The Xperia X2 has an impressive 8.1 megapixel camera that offers touch focus. It has real sliding QWERTY keyboard for guys like me who uses email, chat, and SMS a lot. Aside from Wifi, Turbo 3G and GPRS connectivity, the Xperia 2 is DNLA-certified! Why did Vodafone drop this mobile phone? Technical delays are normal to any imminent product releases and analysts were caught by surprise by Vodafone’s dumping of the Xperia 2.
I suspect that it got dropped because Sony Xperia X2 has an outdated resistive touchscreen. My own review or rating of Sony Ericsson Xperia X2′s features are above average, overall. But since I have had some trouble with the touchscreen that is the main cause of delays in texting or browsing the internet, I cannot give it a very high score. I cannot understand why Sony, a company known for great user-friendly designs, has slapped the Xperia X2 with this resistive panel. It is not responsive to fingertip manipulations and you have to use either your fingernail or take out the stylus on top of the phone. Just because the Xperia X2 has a comfy QWERTY, doesn’t mean Sony had to forget that the iPhone 3G and 3GS models became such massive hits because it has a wonderful capacitive touchscreen. In fact, our older HTC Imagio phone has a better touchscreen than Sony Xperia X2. OMG!
The Google Nexus One has a capacitive display and it might be one reason why Vodafone chose it over the Xperia X2.
