Samsung Wave S8500 Release Date in Canada Set by Bell
The Samsung Wave S8500 release date in Canada can be expected very soon as announced by Bell. With all the iPhone 4 and Motorola Droid X frenzy States-side, Samsung sensed that that Americans have no interest for its first Bada OS smart phone. The Korean company has opted instead to release the Samsung Wave S8500 in Canada. A leaked internal memo from Bell Canada disclosed that it is scheduled to debut the Samsung Wave S8500 smartphone this coming July 8, 2010. The document states that Bell is planning to sell it for $299.95 with service contract. This price of, however, is not yet final because it is for employees-only communication. The final price details will be released on June 28 after Bell receives the first batch of shipment from Samsung.
I hope Bell and Samsung can work out a deal wherein they’d be able to offer the Wave to Canadians with a more reasonable price. The $299.95 price tag is already equivalent to the most expensive iPhone 4 packaged price from AT&T. Much as I like the idea of Bada OS, I don’t think people are ready to splurge that much money to a system that has no solid foundation like what iPhone and Android handsets enjoy right now. Until now, Samsung has yet to offer a decent amount of Bada OS-compatible apps. If Bell sells this for $120 or lower, I’m sure Canadians will consider it as a good deal.
I already reviewed the Wave S8500 before. It has substantial hardware attractions as a smart phone. The 3.3-inch SUPER AMOLED multi-touch display is one case in point. I am not impressed with the iPhone 4’s retina display despite it having the higher resolution. My friend told me that Apple still has to find a solution to the problem of viewing the iPhone’s screen under direct light. The SUPER AMOLED screen has already exhibited its ability to be viewed clearly even under direct sunlight. Sadly, there’s more to selling phones than hardware specifics. I hope the Samsung Wave S8500 with Bada OS smartphone doesn’t end up like the Palm Pre – a great phone but the operating system is too darn exotic for the public!
