After the successful release of Samsung Omnia i900 (SGH-i900) in the market, news has it that Samsung Singapore has made the first firmware/ROM update/upgrade for the Samsung Omnia i900 Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone available.
Aside from several bug fixes, the self-service update includes new functionalities like new widgets for Samsung’s custom Today screen and a brand-new “Hanyu Pinyin” text input method for typing in Chinese characters. And that’s about all we know — Samsung still has to released a detailed change-log.
The ROM upgrade includes new widgets for Samsung’s Today screen. A new typing method for Chinese characters, the new Hanyu Pinyin was also included. Unfortunately Samsung didn’t publish the changelog of the changes so far. It’s said that other modification have been made apart from bug fixes.

I installed the Samsung Omnia SGH-i900 Firmware Update/Upgrade to fix a problem with the GPS function in the camera.
Before the upgrade, all photos west of the Greenwich Meridian were tagged as longitude 0 – a pain when I visited my brother in San Diego. On the other hand, before the upgrade you could start taking pictures while waiting for the GPS to lock on, and it would just not attach the GPS location if it hadn’t locked on yet.
After the upgrade, the camera will not take pictures until the GPS has locked on – unless you disable the GPS function entirely.
