Nokia C6 Review: Nokia N97 Mini Stripped Down With a Lower Price

Date Published: August 23, 2010

Rounding up Nokia’s C-series of new smartphones is the top-of–the-line C6. This slider phone mimics the look-and-feel of the Nokia N97 Mini. They both share the same screen display size and powered by an ARM 11 434 Mhz processor. The touchscreen display is also resistive and needs extra effort to use. If you don’t like touch typing, there’s a very good slide-out keyboard. The Nokia C6, like the N97 Mini, runs on Symbian S60 5th Edition OS.

Holding true to the C-series motto of mass-market appeal philosophy, the Nokia C6 comes with a very affordable asking price. You can get one for around $300 at online and retail stores without any service contract. I bought one for my cousin at eBay for $285 with free 2GB microSD card. Yes, this phone is also made of plastic and doesn’t have the steel casing of the E72. Don’t let this fact discourage you from owning this phone. This one has all the bells and whistles you would find in high-end smart phones from HTC or Samsung.

The Nokia C6 has 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support and can respectably run apps and games that are compatible with S60. It also features Flash Lite which should make you smile since you can waste your time watching Youtube videos on this phone all day long – which iPhone users never get to experience at all! Web browsing on the C6 is also a delight since the 320×640 3.2-inch screen can render full websites in their native form. Zooming on a web page is however not that great but it works.

Since this phone features a speedy processor like that found on the N97 Mini, you can also use this as a portable media player for your audio and video files. The battery is a big winner for this phone because tests showed it can lasts up 2 days despite plenty of use of web browsing and video plays. Unlike the C3 and C5, this phone has support for A-GPS and the 5-megapixel camera has auto-focus and a strong LED flash. The video capture is nothing to brag about since it is not HD quality.

The Nokia C6 Phone is a cheap alternative to the Nokia N97 Mini

Buy this phone if you need a full-function smartphone but wouldn’t mind tolerating the resistive touchscreen display. I also noticed slow processing time for the Nokia C6 compared to the N97 Mini. This phone isn’t as snappy which is really a puzzle since they seem to have the same processor. But nevertheless, the Nokia C6 is currently my favorite mid-range smartphone. So many features for such a very small price tag!
