Motorola Releases Intro Video for Motorola Droid X

Date Published: June 25, 2010

Aside from the public clamor for the iPhone 4, the only other phone making noise this season is Motorola Droid X. Verizon and Motorola has scheduled an invitation-only press event to introduce this Android superphone a day before the Apple iPhone 4’s commercial launch. This controversial timing is adding to the fierce competition. Motorola adds more fuel to the fire, it released the intro video for the Motorola Droid X on Youtube. Virtually all tech bloggers snapped it up and disseminated it, helping the Droid X get almost the same web coverage as the iPhone 4 is generating. You can watch the intro video, in case you haven’t seen it yet, after the jump.

A screen capture from Motorola's Droid X Video

The video is another clever tease. I already knew that the Motorola Droid X can capture HD 720p video and has HDMI output for HDTV playback. It’s got a huge 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen and an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and auto focus. But  I learned new things from the video such as that this super phone also features Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) connectivity so it is possible to stream HD photos and videos on other DLNA-certified gadgets. I’m also surprised that it doesn’t come with an SnapDragon CPU. Instead, the Motorola Droid X is equipped with a 1GHz OMAP processor from Texas Instruments. I bet this OMAP CPU features dual-core architecture, one for general purpose processing and the other a dedicated DSP which really helps in HD movie playback and capturing.

The other info I really liked from this video is Motorola’s confirmation that the Droid X can act as a 3G hotspot for up to 5 different devices. Yes, you read right, it’s not WiFi, the video said you can use this phone as a mobile 3G hotspot! I hope Motorola isn’t lying about this feature, I don’t know of any other phone that can do this. Does it mean I can use the Motorola Droid X’s 3G connection for my iPad or my 6-Inch Kindle Ebook Reader?

Expect Motorola and Verizon to do massive advertising campaign for Motorola Droid X phone just like what they previously did with the original Moto Droid last year. The two companies reportedly spent up to $100 million on advertising but it sure did make the Droid a best-seller with 1.05 million units sold in only 74 days! Will the Motorola Droid X beat this record? It’s going up against Apple’s latest juggernaut the iPhone 4. Which of these two super phones will sell more in the next 90 days?
