Nokia N9 MeeGo OS-powered Smartphone Release Date and Price in Russia
Looks like Nokia is no longer as confident in the Asian market which used to be their traditional launching pad for new products. The Russian branch of Nokia posted on its website that they are now ready to accept pre-ordering for the Nokia N9 Smartphone with MeeGo OS. The employees there also confirmed that this phone will officially launch on August 19, 2011.
Apparently, the Nokia N9 MeeGo OS Smartphone was not included in Nokia’s deal with Microsoft to bring out Windows Phone 7 smartphones. Nokia’s decision to use the MeeGO OS has obviously displeased a lot of their loyalists.
A lot of people have been clamoring for a Nokia-branded handset with WP7 since March. Instead, they unveiled the Nokia Oro Luxury Smartphone with Symbian OS and Nokia N9 with Meego OS. Having experienced a cold reception from American and some European customers, it’s no surprise that Nokia has taken the N9 to Russia.

Nokia's Cyan model of the N9 Meego Smartphone
As per Nokia Russia insiders, the Nokia N9 is available for a pre-order price of 18,800 rubles or around $655. It makes me wonder why Nokia has instead opted to sell this unit by itself and not with a Russian telecom. The Nokia N9 Smartphone is a revolutionary phone in terms of hardware design but the industry obviously has no love for the MeeGO 1.2 Harmattan operating system.
Nokia N9′s features were published here before but here’s a quick brush-up. Its most compelling attribute is that it’s the first smartphone manufactured with a full-glass front. There’s no physical buttons like you still find on the iPhone or Android phones. Everything about the N9 is touch-based. The 3.9-inches AMOLED screen is a multi-touch capacitive and is coated with Gorilla Glass protective layer and an anti-glare polarizer.
The 8 megapixel camera of the Nokia N9 is reputedly the best there is because it uses Carl Zeiss optics. This camera has Dual LED Flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, face detection and touch-focusing abilities.
Nokia N9 was loaded up with 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU, TI OMAP 3630 chipset and a huge 1GB of RAM, internal specs usually seen in tablet computers such as the Herotab MID815 Tablet PC and Arnova 7. Other notable features on this phone are its Dolby Surround audio, NFC, and superspeedy HSDPA 14.4Mbps 3G download speed.
