Verizon LG Revolution 4G LTE Android Phone Released

Date Published: May 27, 2011

Verizon Wireless wants to keep its crown as the best LTE network in America and to emphasize that they just released another 4G LTE capable Android phone. The new LG Revolution is the third handset to join Verizon’s Samsung Droid Charge and HTC Thunderbolt. This third 4G LTE smartphone solidifies Verizon’s leadership because it shows more phone manufacturers are signing up their products with them than AT&T.

Verizon LG Revolution Release Date Price and Specs

The LG Revolution is Verizon's third 4G LTE-enabled smartphone. It's nothing to crow about since it still sports a single-core CPU and Android 2.2 OS. It's pretty though.

Verizon’s LG Revolution 4G LTE Android Phone first came to light back in January when LG’s President previewed this phone at Verizon Wireless press conference during the CES 2011 event. It took them 5 months but LG delivers a rather outdated smartphone to market. I’m not happy to tell you that the LG Revolution is still powered by a single-core Qualcomm 1 GHz SnapDragon. Recent Android phone releases like the HTC Trophy, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Droid X2 and Xperia PLAY already features dual-core CPUs.

Furthermore, Verizon is launching the LG Revolution with the old Android OS 2.2 Froyo which is almost a year-old already! I would have expected LG to ship this 4G LTE handset with Android 2.3! Hopefully, Verizon will issue an OS update by next month or before summer. Gingerbread is already six-months old and LG had all the time to install it if they really made the effort.

Despite being outdated in terms of hardware and software, the LG Revolution is still a decent smartphone to have. It has a big 4.3-inch capacitive multi touch screen, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling, a 5 megapixel camera at the back that has autofocus and LED flash that also records 720p HD videos. The Revolution has support for Wireless-N and Bluetooth 3.0. Its 4G LTE connectivity is further complemented by full support for 3G just in case you are in area where Verizon’s got no LTE signal.

Verizon is offering the LG Revolution for $249 under a new 24-month service contract. To sweeten the deal, the carrier is offering a free 16GB miniSD card with every purchase of a LG Revolution. They also say that the LG Revolution is allowed to function as mobile hotspot for free for up to 8 Wi-Fi enabled devices when in 4G signal, and up to 5 users on a slower 3G network.

LG says the Revolution may be using the older Android 2.2 OS but they tested it to fully work with the new Netflix App for Android. So together with its 4G LTE superfast internet connection, this phone is perfect for watching streaming full HD movies! The manufacturer also thoughtfully pre-installed SWYPE on the Revolution for faster typing.
