Audacity 1.3.13 Beta Digital Audio Editor Download Now Available

Audacity 1.3.13 Beta, based on my tinkering, comes as good as any premium commercial digital audio editors like Sony’s Sound Forge or Adobe’s Audition. It is still ugly though, the audacity team doesn’t seem to have an artistic UI designer, but it’s got new features and improvements that even professional musicians will appreciate.
First and foremost of these new features is the new improved Automatic Crash Recovery feature. This crash recovery feature now features auto-save of all project changes so you don’t lose work just in case you PC screws up or lose power supply. I also liked that in this beta version, I can zoom in/out and time shift the MIDI tracks I add to my project.
Audacity 1.3.13 Beta version also comes with better audio noise removal. There’s a new sensitivity slider to eliminate noise quickly and you can even accurately isolate nasty noise on your recorded vocal or instrument tracks. Audacity 1.3.13 Beta brings the following Changes and Improvements:
- Control Toolbar renamed to Transport Toolbar.
- Device Toolbar (on by default) now contains all input and output device choices, including host and recording channels. Input/output choices are no longer in Mixer Toolbar on Windows XP or some older operating systems. New Transport > Rescan Audio Devices menu item to refresh the device list.
- Noise Removal: New “Sensitivity” slider to adjust the noise threshold, and new option to isolate noise.
- Equalization: New “Manage Curves” dialog for importing and exporting curves.
- New “Sync-Lock Tracks” feature (turned on in the Tracks menu) to allow groups of audio and/or label tracks to retain synchronization when the track length changes.
- New “Extended Import” Preferences for specifying different importers to open specific file extensions.
- MIDI tracks can be vertically zoomed, time shifted and display bar lines. Note: the channel selection buttons are not available in 1.3.13.
- Improved Automatic Crash Recovery with all project changes auto saved.
- For Windows and Linux: The window Close button and other system close or shutdown commands now quit on closing the last window. File > Close always clears to a new, empty project.
- For Mac OS X: Simpler installer with top-level “Audacity” folder.
