Fujifilm FinePix HS20 EXR CMOS Superzoom DSLR-like Camera Preview

Date Published: January 7, 2011

I have always been a fan of Fujifilm bridge DSLR cameras. They not only offer affordable prices but more importantly, they deliver superior picture quality on a smaller body. Fujifilm is proud to announce the successor to their best-selling HS10 camera, the Fujifilm FinePix HS20 EXR CMOS Superzoom DSLR-like Camera, which they previewed at CES 2011.

Fujifilm Finepix HS20 DSLR-Like Digital Camera Specs and Preview of Features

The Ultimate All-in-One digital camera is here. Fujifilm announces the coming of the new Finepix HS20 Digital Camera that features dual EXR and CMOS technology.

The 16-megapixel FinePix HS20 is a huge upgrade to the 10-megapixel HS10. This model retains the same 30x optical zoom feature but Fujifilm brags about the latest EXR CMOS sensor technology that they slapped on the HS20. This hybrid combination promises to produce outstanding picture quality irregardless of lighting conditions.

This camera’s EXR engine has also been greatly improved to use triple core processors. The HS20 is now capable of taking high-speed photos of up to 7.6 frames per second speed and can do auto focus in 0.16 seconds.

The HS20’s boosted processing power now also lets it capture high-speed full 1080p HD videos in H.264 file format. There’s also an option to capture high-speed video up to 320fps if the need arises.

Below is a list of other major enhancements to Fujifilm’s flagship camera. Even pros will appreciate the innate superiority of this camera compared to real DSLR models from Canon or Nikon such as Nikon D7000. The optical 30x super zoom lens makes the HS20 the all-in-one solution to any photography needs.

The HS20 will be available for purchase by March for around $500. The exact Fujifilm FinePix HS20 Digital Camera release date is yet to be announced but we’ll be here to update you when official word from the company is released.

I have a Sandisk Extreme III class 6 card. Fuji recommends a minimum class 4 so I upped it one class. When I take a single photo at the LOWEST resolution it takes almost 3 full seconds for it to write to this fast card. When I use burst mode at the LOWEST setting it takes a painfully slow 10-15 seconds to write to the card! When I go to the higher JPEG only setting (not RAW or RAW + JPEG) it took 20+ seconds to write!! This is a crazy amount of time!! Either RAW mode is even worse. On top of that while it is writing thumbnails appear on the LCD screen. A total of 9 thumbnails then the LCD refreshes for more. You can’t even make out what the thumbnails are so I don’t no what the point is. Here’s the kicker. Fuji says you can’t disable this!!! I would love to keep this camera but can’t live with these poor write speeds. A call to Fuji confirms this is not a defect.
