Wordpress 2.7 and 2.7.1 Not Sending Pingbacks/Trackbacks
Recently, I’ve been troubleshooting ping problems with this site. If you have observed, this blog is powered by Wordpress 2.7.1 (upgraded from Wordpress 2.7). I have not been able to send pingbacks/trackbacks to otehr sites and my own articles since transferring web hosts (from Host Monster to Inmotionhosting on April 7 this year). I can, by the way, receive pingbacks and (presumably) trackbacks.
I contacted Inmotionhosting because this pingback issue is really boggling my mind. I have read at least 30 threads and 50 articles dealing with this issue which suggest a wide range of possible problems which include DNS not setup properly, wp-cron.php not processing pings, server not allowing cron jobs to get through as this is considered by some web hosts as a security threat. My web host and I have made several email exchanges and I have tried providing every possible detail and recommendations. I am not sure what will they find out in the next few hours or days of investigation.
This is the first time I have experienced this after purchasing 4 web hosting packages from 3 companies. Installing Wordpress manually is not a new thing for me. This blog is the 25th site I have done a manual installation of Wordpress. I have even created a test site (subdomain) to verify if my site hosted with Inmotionhosting is truly not sending pingbacks/trackbacks or is just THIS installation of Wordpress that’s giving me such a huge headache.
For some reasons, I need pingbacks/trackbacks working. My cron jobs (using wp-crontrol plugin) indicate that there are cron jobs waiting to be executed which are supposed to be executed instantaneously just after hitting the publish button like pinging search engines that my blog’s content has changed and/or updating my Google Sitemap Generator (which stopped working after transferring to my new web host). I have no issue with the support team of Inmotionhosting as they have been very fast in addressing my server/blog concerns in the past. The support team is one of the best if not the best in the business, in my view. However, this problem must be boggling them as well.
As yet another test, I am pinging some of my articles here below to see if pingbacks are already working. I have removed some ping services to ping under Writing of my dashboard. I just want to know if this works. I will also check later if the Google Sitemap Generator will update after this post:

How to Avoid Downtime When Transferring Your Website to Another Web Host
There. I’ll keep everyone posted with the development of this issue.
Update: This morning, I received an email from the support team of Inmotionhsoting that my DNS was not resolving properly (one of the hypothesized reasons for Wordpress not being able to send pingbacks and trackbacks) but they claimed to have fixed it. I logged in to my dashboard and the pingback of my post last night (before fixing the DNS error) showed up. Probably this issue has been finally resolved. I’ll post again after several test posts. Even this post’s pingbacks will be tested after editing this article.

[...] This has driven me crazy. For several days now, I had been debugging why I am not able to send pingbacks. I spent several hours scouring the internet for any kind of solution. Looks like a lot of people were having the same problem. [...]
I also had the same problem. However, I believe mine was due to a plugin or theme I had. I’ve gotten rid of both and everything is working fine, I believe. Though, I am still not sure if my trackbacks are showing up as it should. But I can live with that. Good luck with your testing. It could shed some light to this issue.

Clarisse,
I think your pingbacks/trackbacks are already working. For me it’s not fully functioning. sometimes it sends pingbacks sometimes it does not.

Maybe it has something to do with how it’s connecting to the other site. Your plugins or theme could also be the cause. I’m not sure what else you’ve done… But you could try replicating your current Wordpress setup in another folder of this site. See if it works using the default setup. If it does you could cross out the DNS issue. Aside from this, I honestly couldn’t provide any more useful input. Though hopefully you’ll be able to fix this.

I’ve tried everything. It could be server-side beyond my control. This is my 4th active web hosting account because I own 15 websites. There are worse cases I’ve encountered before and I know it might take time to fix this but it will be fixed for sure.
