DNS Error Can Prevent Your Site from Sending Pingbacks

Date Published: April 23, 2009

This is in relation to my problem on sending pingbacks and trackbacks using WordPress 2.7 and 2.7.1, which has really consumed so much of my time troubleshooting. Apparently, I can now send pingbacks/trackbacks to other sites but I can’t send pingbacks to my own articles (again). I tried upgrading the WordPress MySQL database and I’m not sure how will this affect sending pingbacks. A few hours ago, my web hosting provider told that my DNS is not resolving properly. After fixing the DNS error, I was able to send pingbacks to some of my articles but my last three articles on Vacuum Cleaners: iRobot Roomba 530 Robotic Vacuum With Virtual Wall, iTunes Error 5002: How To Fix iTunes Error 5002 When Encountered? and Gateway T-6345U Notebook With 14.1-Inch WXGA Screen were not able to send pingbacks once more.

I was able to send pingbacks to our site partner, Cool Gadgets and Technology, which goes to show that external pingbacks work, but these have not been seen even when I link to my own articles. I logged in to my cPanel account and opened PhPMyAdmin to investigate if the database is writable. It obviously is but not the appropriate fields (to_ping and pinged columns under the wp-posts table). I have received a ping a while ago from another site but I’m not sure if I can still receive such again. I’m guessing the DNS problem has not been fully resolved yet. I’ll be talking to my VPS web hosting provider’s support team about this and ask them politely to investigate further what’s blocking my site to link to its previous posts. And this problem is really annoying me. While some bloggers don’t want pingbacks to show in their sites, I prefer the opposite. It’s one way of cross-promoting articles and I have seen some increase in traffic after deep linking articles so I can’t really afford to stay in one place and simply shrug off this issue.

I have a similar problem with my other site, fren. I thought it was the theme that’s causing the problem. Di ko pa na-check kung ok na ba since I changed theme. But if it’s DNS, I’d better check on my web host.

    Mhy,

While it’s a possibility that themes and/or plugins can cause this, the server-side of the pingback problem cannot be overlooked. This wordpress pingback problem was really getting into my nerves fren. Buti naman nag-resolve na pero di pa rin maka-pingback at all times. I think it has something to do with the comment flood function in wordpress so I’m again dissecting the core files of WP. Grrr!
