Blogger Blog Hijacked
A few minutes ago, I did a little bloghopping and my blogger-friend Ellaine of Lainy’s Musing claimed that her Blogger blog (formerly located at www.lainyonline.com) was hijacked by an unknown entity. That being said, she has transferred her site to WordPress, a very efficient and flexible content management system (CMS). I was even telling here to migrate to WordPress a long time ago but since her first blogging platform was Blogger, she stuck with it for a while only to realize that blogs hosted by Blogger are very vulnerable to hijacking.
I am wondering how this happened up to now. How can Blogger blogs be hijacked considering that Blogger is owned by the mighty Google? This only shows that in the virtual world, nothing is totally safe and secure. I could only theorize that the person who hijacked the website could have used a keystroke logger or he must have guessed the password right (which is very unlikely to happen if you will not use familiar entities like names, birthdays, places or even events). Whatever is the reason, it’s most likely that the old blog is now completely erased. The old site now redirects to the new domain name Ellaine purchased and this incident should serve as a lesson to all bloggers and webmasters. Good thing I keep my passwords long and mixed up (alphanumeric characters with uppercase and lowercase combinations) and I think that’s a wise thing to do when dealing with login information. It might be more difficult to remember passwords like these but the best thing to do is create a list of passwords. Write them down on a piece of paper and create copies in your cell phones or laptops using a word processing software like notepad or Microsot Word. It’s always better safe than sorry in the end. This may not be the definitive solution to identity theft but it will surely give those hackers a hard time trying to figure out what your passwords and/or usernames are (and I hope they’ll have too much hard time they’ll end up giving up).

Kuya,
Thanks for posting this one. It’s a lesson learned. This could happen to anyone. ANd you are right, Blogger is very vulnerable, it is not 100% safe. We are not fully guarded and protected. And they couldn’t even help when something arises. Happy ako at least I am with WP na.
Nangyari din yan sa friend ko. Nagtataka kasi ako sa mga posts nya bakit naging porn related na lahat to think na Christian related website yun. When I asked him ayun sinabi nya nga nahack yung site nya, ni hindi na nga sya makapasok kasi pinalitan na rin yung password.

Ellaine,
No problem. Basta pag may trouble don’t forget to ask for my help. I will always be there whether your Blogger blog or WordPress blog will be hijacked or jacked. Hehehe! It has been my problem one time but I found some simple workaround for this problem.
