Blog Contest Update 2
For contestants and voters of the Free Web Hosting for Your Wordpress Blogs Contest (domains not included as prizes), this post is an update to the contest. Tomorrow (December 25) will be the deadline of submission of entries for contestants, December 30 for voters.
The updates are in .jpg format so click on the images to view the enlarged versions of the files.
However, I have noticed that there had been attempts from spammers to join this contest hoping perhaps that they can get another chance to trash a new blog to be hosted for free. This is in my view a pathetic and desperate act. If you are a spammer or aim to use the domain you will buy to trash the internet, then do yourself a favor – don’t join! I will not host a spam blog ever. Who will? Nobody likes spams and spammers. These are online entities that do nothing but annoy other people and scatter dirt online. I deal with spams everyday. I know pretty well what a spam site is and is not.
Also, let this serve as a word of warning to future winners. Once your site becomes a spam, I will STOP hosting it. Go buy yourself a new web hosting plan and do anything you want with it. I have enough troubles managing web servers. I won’t waste my time hosting a splog.
In addition, if you think the tasks involved in managing or administering a web server is easy, buy your own and try managing your domains, blogs, MySQL databases, and server settings yourself. After that come back here and post your comment about your experiences. It’s not easy to manage a web server, I’m telling you. Routine maintenance have to be done. Blogs hosted have to be tweaked for them to run smoothly, etcetera. Managing a web server is NOT a job suited for the inexperienced (that is if you are after quality, speed and reliability). Not because you have a web hosting plan doesn’t mean that you can manage your server efficiently. Without enough experience, you can do more damage than good to your server and sites hosted with it.
Also, I have noticed that some contestants have not been really serious with the contest while some are unquestionably “game” to get what they want (a free web hosting for a year). Since this is supposed to be a competition and other contestants have not demonstrated the same level of competitiveness in getting what they really want or need, I am changing some of the prizes here. I designed the contest to build friendship and camaraderie among and between bloggers who are willing to become a part of a good community and I firmly believe it should really be that way because winners and myself are going to work closely for a year.
All complaints and troubleshooting will be handled by the web server administrator (me), not any of the winners. To make things clearer, only the web server administrator has that privilege (and liability if I may add), not the blog owners (winners of this contest) whose blogs will be hosted for free. This is an added benefit because bloggers whose Wordpress blogs I will host are guaranteed regular maintenance for one year which is also FREE. Guidelines on this is in the works and I will send it to winners prior to the official start of hosting their blogs.
I have come up with this decision after careful evaluation of contestants’ take on this contest (which will save them a huge amount of money, time and energy in the long run if they win). This is also in line with my personal notion on karma where those who really worked hard should get rewards commensurate their efforts. If you want to reap something, then learn how to plant.
Please note that my intentions in holding this contest are good (to host Wordpress-powered blogs for one whole year for FREE). I don’t want to antagonize anyone but in view of fair play, I have decided to give away only FIVE (instead of the original 10) free web hosting to Wordpress-powered blogs (for new domains only, not existing domains). This is to reward those who really “deserve” to be rewarded. This applies to contestants only. In return, I am increasing the cash prizes to
2nd Prize: $20
3rd Prize: $15
In case of tie, the combined prizes for the two spots will be divided equally to contestants whose scores tied. Merry Christmas to all!
