Joomla as Free Content Management System (CMS)

April 19, 2009 · Filed Under Joomla

Two days ago, Eric Nagal (a contributor to this blog + long-time friend) and myself were evaluating the site he developed for a Local Government Unit in Ilocos Norte. He showed me the site which he did using the free Joomla 1.0 (opensource). The layout and functionality of the site are indeed very very good and so I am hoping that someday, this guy’s efforts would pay off. Maybe a simple appreciation and some content as contributions to the site from his co-workers would do just fine. But until now, I’m not even sure if appreciation was even given to the poor fellow. Maybe I should give him money as a form of rewarding his good and unselfish deed.

Joomla is really a cool content management system (CMS) and it will be one of the featured topics in this site under the category Content Management System. Wordpress is undoubtedly the best blogging platform (in my humble opinion) but when it comes to creating ecommerce sites, public brand sites and intranets, Joomla is the top contender. It can also be used as a blogging software but I haven’t really tried it yet and do not have the intent to do so. One of the many things I like about Joomla is its built-in forum software which is very easy to install and configure.

There are more features of Joomla that we’d love to discuss here and we intend to do that in the soonest possible time. One feature we will explore is using Joomla as a blogging tool like Wordpress and Blogger. Stay with us as we explore Joomla 1.5 in the near future.

No problem my fren. I know how difficult it is to develop a website even with a free CMS like joomla. It takes time, hard work, money and a hell lot of skills to accomplish something like developing a government website. In fact, I think you deserve a raise from the City government. ;-)
