How to Remove a USB/Flash Drive Virus Like Win32/AutoRun.UG Worm
My USB drives and Memory Stick PRO Duo Flash Memory have been infected by viruses before. One of which is the active Win32/AutoRun.UG Worm. I said active because the Win32/AutoRun.UG Worm is a common virus infecting USB drives and flash memory cards. This happened when my wife ordered prints of photos saved onto those devices. It happened several times and at one time, my USB drive was even corrupted (can no longer use auto-run in Windows).
The best thing to do when your USB/flash drive and/or flash memory cards get infected is to transfer all the content of the flash device in a folder located in your hard drive. But first you should check your hard drive and flash device for viruses by running an antivirus software such as NOD32 Antivirus, Norton Antivirus or Kaspersky Antivirus. Make sure the database of your antivirus software is up-to-date.
After transferring all the file you need, format the USB/Flash drive and/or memory stick to make sure the virus is removed.
However, to further safeguard your files and storage media, always make sure your computer is installed with a realiable antivirus software, preferably with an auto-update feature. If your antivirus software detects the virus Win32/AutoRun.UG Worm, delete it immediately. There is no need to quarantine this virus/worm. Luckily, if the autorun file in your storage media is already damaged, you can always right-click on the device and select “Explore” to open the device and files saved in it.
