The Xbox Live Update August 11, 2009 has many new great features wherein one of which is the new Xbox Live Avatar Marketplace. In Xbox Live’s Avatar Marketplace, users are allowed to customize their avatars with interactive props (like the one on the photo below) and even purchase branded apparels with fashion labels. Xbox Live has gone down a few times in the past and we’ve documented Xbox Live Down events since 2008. For 2009, it’s only the 2nd time this month of August Xbox Live went down for reasons unclear to many users. The first schedule was in June. Well, this is most likely due to system maintenance like Xbox Live always does on a regular basis. This is the June 16 schedule of site maintenance of Xbox Live which could also affect Zune users in some ways (read Zune HD Release Date if you want to know more about the new Zune HD). In relation to the Xbox Live Update in February 3, many Xbox Live subscribers complained that their Xbox Live Update failed and they have seen something terrible in this failure – Microsoft’s irresponsibility. While it’s true the Xbox Live update was primarily designed to address issues/problems concerning audio and HDMI connections of Xbox 360 consoles, the update did not obviously deliver on its promise to Xbox Live subscribers. Xbox Live News: Xbox Live Down Again and Angers Users

Microsoft Xbox Live Down Again for 24 hoursMicrosoft’s Xbox Live is down again so don’t get upset if you can’t connect to the Xbox Live server (although many people are mad already). The outage was scheduled by Microsoft for 24 hours. That means a full day without Xbox Live. :-(

Reports have it that in addition to Xbox Live being down, you won’t be able to access the “My Xbox” section of Xbox.com, and the Xbox forums will be in read-only mode. Do note that this downtime will not result in any new features once Live goes back up — it’s only intended to prepare the service for the big Xbox Dashboard re-launch set to happen later this year, that will add new navigation features and as well the Microsoft Avatars.
