Smart Underwear With Biosensors Availability in the Market Kudos to Modern Inkjet Printer Technology
Have you ever wondered how would it feel to wear a smart underwear that can detect your blood pressure, stress level and body temperature? Thanks to some inkjet printers like Epson NX420 AIO Inkjet Printer with 802.11n WiFi and the technology they were made from, American scientists from the University of California San Diego, La Jolla have developed a radical method for printing biosensors directly into clothing. Joseph Wang, one of the inventors of this technique said they took inspiration from inkjet-printer technology to achieve this feat. He and his team nozzle-printed nano carbon electrode arrays directly unto the elastic bands of men’s underwear successfully. The fixed contact to the skin will allow these biosensors to constantly monitor hydrogen peroxide and the enzyme NADH which are associated with various biomedical processes.
Wang explained that the biosensors they managed to embed in men’s underwear can also monitor a person’s blood pressure and heart rate. The rising costs of hospital treatment in the US calls for cost-effective home-based healthcare management. Their invention of the smart underwear with biosensors is a reliable and wearable physiological monitoring system that will allow 24/7 at-home surveillance of patients. This will decrease the workload on the hospitals and will substantially reduce people’s medical expenses.
The team of Mr. Wang also claimed that stresses associated with everyday use such as folding, washing, or stretching the underwear, did not affect the performance of the sensors. Their numerous tests have proven the durability of their nozzle-printed carbon electrode sensors on cloth. Thus, their technique will allow numerous applications beyond the field of health management. Wang adds that their next future objective is to develop enzyme sensors for ethanol and lactate which could be use for monitoring alcohol level of drivers and stress levels of professional athletes and soldiers in combat.
If you have a medical condition such as high-blood pressure or heat ailment, I suggest you contact the scientists from University of California on how you can obtain one of this smart underwear.
