Globe Telecom’s iPhone 3G Prepaid Kits/Plans in the Philippines

September 29, 2008 · Filed Under iPhone 3G Updates/News · Comment

Globe Telecom offers prepaid kits/plans for the iPhone 3G, not just postpaid iPhone 3G plans in the Philippines. This gives possible subscribers more choices. Business-wise, this is Globe’s way of making iPhone 3G more saleable in the Philippines because many Pinoy cell phone addicts are already complaining about the high prices of Globe-powered iPhone 3G in the Philippines. The sad thing is, there is a 2-year lock-in period for all the iPhone 3G plans of Globe (prepaid and post-paid).

But don’t get too excited because you might find the prices of these Globe iPhone 3G plans way too expensive. Yes, for average cell phone users in the Philippines, the Globe iPhone 3G plans are very expensive and I would not recommend it to anyone I know.

Unlocked iPhone 3G in the Philippines Would Be Better for Cell Phone Users

September 29, 2008 · Filed Under iPhone 3G Updates/News · 1 Comment

The iPhone 3G in the Philippines is exclusively distributed by Globe Telecom through post-paid plans. This means that iPhone 3G in the Philippines are not unlocked to avail of other services offered by other networks like Smart Telecoms and Sun Cellular. Cell phone buyers do not have a choice but to give in to Globe Telecom’s rates if they buy an iPhone 3G in the Philippines. However, there is a huge possibility that unlocked iPhone 3G mobile phone units could be sold in the Philippines in the near future. Here are the reasons why:

Texting While Driving is More Dangerous Than Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

September 27, 2008 · Filed Under Internet News · 4 Comments

A study in the UK claimed that texting while driving is actually more dangerous than drugs and alcohol. The study was conducted by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) for the British Royal Automobile Club Foundation in its attempt to compare the dangers posed by texting while driving and driving under the influence or DUI.

In the Philippines, House Bill No. 4917 proposed a Total Cell Phone Ban While Driving in the Philippines, gaining the approval of the public after having experienced numerous accidents while the driver of the vehicle is texting or calling (see related story on Accidents and Injuries Related to Texting and Cell Phone Use).

Majority of Children in the US Play Video Games, Research Shows

September 27, 2008 · Filed Under Internet News, Video Games · 1 Comment

I’ve always been keen on video games and video gaming especially among children. However, a recent study in the US stated that majority of children play video games (97% combined for males and females aged 12-17). In the Philippines, this situation is similar. Most Filipino children I know are addicted to video games. This reminds me of my old posts “Improve Reading Skills with Computer and Video Games” and “Best Video Games of 2008“.

Nokia N95 8Gb Clone China-made Cell Phones

September 26, 2008 · Filed Under Cell Phones/Mobile Phones · 15 Comments

The reason why the title of this article is “Nokia N95 8Gb Clone China-made Cell Phones” is because there are two variants of the Nokia N95 clone made by the Chinese – one without a built-in TV and the other is with a built-in TV. I will discuss the differences of the two models as an update to my previous article “Nokia N95 8GB Clone (China Made): Full Specifications and Features” (see photo, prices, full specifications and features of the original and clone Nokia N95 8GB in that article).

Nokia N95 8GB Clone (China Made): Full Specifications and Features

September 23, 2008 · Filed Under Cell Phones/Mobile Phones · 70 Comments

If you are wondering what are the Nokia N95 8GB Clone (made in China) cell phone specifications and features, look no further because they’re very very similar to the original Nokia N95 cell phones. Believe me, knockoff cell phones made in China like the Nokia N95 8GB Clone units look real if you’re not used to seeing original Nokia cell phones. The Chinese are really doing great in creating knockoff mobile phones.

The N95 8GB Clone (China made) was actually offered to me by a friend in Laoag City, Philippines. This knockoff Nokia N95 model is only sold in stores in the Philippines for Php 4,000 or less. Just like the Toshibo N99i V9+i Mobile TV Knockoff Nokia model, the Nokia N95 8GB Clone’s operating system is NOT Symbian. It is also PDA-like with a touch screen (stylus provided). Except for that, the full specifications and features of the Nokia N95 8GB Clone (China made) mobile phones are virtually the same as the original Nokia N95 8GB model.

Here are the full specs of the Nokia N95 Clone model:

Operating Frequency

  • Automatic switching between bands and modes
  • WCDMA 2100 MHz (HSDPA), EGSM 900 MHz, GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz (EGPRS)

Total Cell Phone Ban While Driving Bill in the Philippines

September 20, 2008 · Filed Under Internet News · 8 Comments

In many countries, using a cell phone while driving is ok (if the cell phone is being used in a hands-free mode). However, a proposed bill in the Philippine House of Representatives (House Bill No. 4917) is a little bit harsher than laws in Western countries proposing a total cell phone ban while driving in the Philippines.

First Google Mobile PhoneA new era dawns for internet giant Google as it releases the first Google cell phone. News about its release states that a mobile telephone tailored to run on Google’s Android software is to debut next week in New York City. This new product from Google is a testimony of Google’s intent to dominate the digital market. First, the internet, now the mobile/cell phone industry. It even launched its own web browser a few weeks ago, the Buggy Google Chrome, which in many users’ views is a failed attempt of Google to have its own web browser. In the Philippines, the first Google mobile phone will not be available in stores soon. Filipinos whose hands are itchy on cell phones must wait for a few months after its release in the United States.
